About · Germantown

The art of entertaining.

A neighborhood cocktail lounge in a historic Germantown cottage — a modern take on the cocktail party, where hospitality, conversation, and a well-made drink take center stage.

Our Story

A modern cocktail party.

Demure is inspired by the art of entertaining — the era, roughly 1950 to 1964, when a good room, a good drink, and good company were the whole point. We took that spirit and built it into a Germantown cottage: the warmth of a mid-century living room, a thoughtful cocktail program, approachable wines, and shareable plates designed for conversation.

It isn't about being quiet. It's about being refined without pretension — confident without performance. Not a bar you shout over. A room you settle into.

The Hardaway House.

Demure lives inside a one-story clapboard worker's cottage at 1319 6th Avenue North — the Hardaway House, built in the 1870s during the making of Germantown, one of Nashville's first suburbs. It began as modest housing for the working families and European immigrants who settled the neighborhood, and over the years became a shop, a café, and now a lounge — always, in its way, a place to gather.

The cottage sits within the Germantown Historic Preservation District, catalogued by the city's historic zoning commission — a small, protected piece of 19th-century Nashville that we get to keep alive.

The Room

Low light, warm brass.

A pressed-tin ceiling and halo lighting overhead. A living moss wall behind the bar. Cognac leather, walnut, and warm globe light, kept low and golden. Out front, a live peach tree; out back, an open-air patio with a bold geometric mural for warm Nashville nights.

Thoughtful Cocktails

Classics done right and a few of our own, served in the right glass.

Approachable Wines

A short, honest list. Good bottles, no ceremony.

Shareable Plates

Small things worth passing around the table.
